Hent – public transport on demand

Hent picks you up where you are and takes you to your destination. If others have booked a trip in the same direction, we'll pick them up along the way. Search, book and pay for your trip in the Ruter app. Hent operates in the Hovinbyen area in Oslo.

How Hent works

  • Book and pay in the Ruter app:
    • Log in to the Ruter app.
    • Search for your journey as usual. If Hent is available, you can book it.
    • Book and pay directly in the Ruter app.
  • Meet at the pick-up point:
You'll receive a notification of the nearest pick-up location and time in the Ruter app. These are not regular bus stops, but specific locations indicated in the app where Hent can pick you up.
  • Travel to your destination:
The driver picks you up and takes you to the agreed drop-off point. While we may pick up more passengers along the way, you'll still arrive at the estimated time.

Useful information about Hent

Pick-up and drop-off points

You'll be picked up from the nearest pick-up point and dropped off at the nearest drop-off point. These are not physical bus stops, but virtual stops where we know the vehicle can stop safely. Usually, it's just a few hundred metres' walk, and never more than 600 metres.

The vehicles are red with the Ruter logo. At the moment, we can accommodate four passengers, plus one wheelchair. All our drivers are certified to operate Hent.

Operating hours

You can book Hent at the following times:

  • Weekdays: 15:00–22:00
  • Weekends: 10:00–20:00

Booking is done directly in the Ruter app, and it's not currently possible to book in advance.

Service area

Hent is currently only available in a limited area of Oslo; east of the Akerselva river, from Nydalen to Rødtvet, and Kjelsås to Etterstad. Your journey must start and end within this area to be able to book and use Hent.

Are you travelling from Ensjø to the Museum of Science and Technology for a family outing? Or perhaps you live in Alna and want to visit Tøyenbadet? Then you can easily book a Hent in the Ruter app.

We aim to make public transport more accessible to everyone, including those who have relied on cars. Hent is a service for everyone, and we are starting by testing it in the area around Hovinbyen in Oslo.

Prices for Hent

Hent is a new service from Ruter, and these are our introductory prices:

  • Adults: 50 NOK per journey
  • Children/Senior Citizens: 25 NOK per journey

The Hent ticket is currently only valid for this service and cannot be used on other Ruter services or combined with period tickets. As Hent evolves, we may adjust prices to reflect improvements and the expansion of the service.

Who can use Hent?

Anyone over the age of 15 can book a journey with Hent. Children under 15 must travel with an adult and cannot rely on a child seat (for those under 135 cm). To book a journey, you just need to have a profile in the Ruter app and be logged in. If you don't have a profile, you can easily create one directly in the app.

Wheelchair users will receive assistance from the driver when boarding and disembarking. It's important that you are able to reach the pick-up point and travel from the drop-off point on your own.

Luggage and pets

You can bring luggage that fits on your lap. We aim to offer space for larger luggage, sports equipment, etc. in the future, but due to space and safety reasons, this is not possible at the moment.

For safety reasons, pets are currently not allowed, but service dogs are. If you need a wheelchair or other mobility aids, you are welcome to bring them.

Travel guarantee

Hent is covered by Ruter's standard travel guarantee for chartered services. If the vehicle doesn't show up, you can apply for a refund.
