These terms and conditions apply to the pilot service Selvkjørende and are initially valid for the pilot period from September 1, 2024, to December 31, 2026. Ruter may terminate the service earlier but will provide reasonable notice if that occurs.
By downloading and activating the Selvkjørende app, you enter into an agreement with Ruter AS and accept the terms and conditions outlined on this page. We recommend that you familiarize yourself with your responsibilities.
For the trip, Ruter's conditions of travel also apply, with exceptions and clarifications described under the "Conditions of travel" section of this agreement.

The app allows you to
- search for trips
- book and pay for trips
- save favorite locations
- save purchase history
To use the Selvkjørende pilot service, Ruter must process a minimum amount of personal data, and you must create a user profile in the Selvkjørende app. You can read more about Ruter's handling of personal data in the Selvkjørende privacy statement.

Terms of using the app and service
You book trips through the Selvkjørende app. The following conditions also apply:
- You may not change or manipulate fixed content on the application.
- Any attempt to recreate the original source code of the software (known as reverse engineering) is strictly prohibited.
- Receipts, purchase history, and/or data made available by Ruter shall not be copied, transferred, traded, and/or distributed in any way.
- You are responsible for meeting up at the designated departure point at the specified time.
Payment
According to Ruter's conditions of travel, you must have paid for the trip and be able to document your right to travel (travel right) with a valid receipt. A valid receipt for Selvkjørende is the order confirmation found in the purchase history in the app.
When paying for the trip, you must:
- Have sufficient funds in your bank account during the purchase process to complete the transaction.
- Ensure you have adequate data traffic and battery on your phone to display valid payment.
- Your mobile phone, tablet, or similar device must also function normally with a readable screen.
If you are unable to present a valid order confirmation in the app's purchase history, it will be considered traveling without a valid receipt. If you book a trip for others on your mobile device, you must travel together so you can show valid payment for everyone.
The operator may ask individuals without a valid travel right to leave the vehicle.

For the pilot service Selvkjørende, the following compensation terms apply:

Please note that we do not refund expenses related to taxis or other alternative transport.
For exceptions to when the travel guarantee applies, refer to Ruter's travel guarantee for regular transport. Read more about this under "When am I not entitled to a refund?" in Ruter's Refund and travel guarantee.

- For the firstcancellation, you will not be charged.
- For the second cancellation, you will be charged 50% of the trip price.
- From the third cancellation onward, you will be charged 100% of the trip price.

- The use of the vehicle's trunk is not allowed.
- It is not permitted to sit in the driver's seat or the front passenger seat.

Please note that we do not refund expenses related to taxis or other alternative transport.
Section 4: What a passenger may bring along
The Self-Driving pilot service is part of a research and development project with limitations related to the vehicle's design and the ability to accommodate extra equipment and luggage. Therefore, there are restrictions on what passengers can bring on the trip.
In case of doubt, the operator will decide if an item or animal can be brought along.
4.1 Luggage
Passengers can bring easily manageable items/luggage onboard, but it must fit on the passenger's lap or on the floor between their legs during the trip, and not obstruct other passengers or the safety operator.
4.2 Pets
Animals are not allowed in the vehicle, except for guide dogs (førerhund) and service dogs (servicehund or tjenestehund).
4.3 Wheeled devices that cannot be taken along
Due to limited space in the vehicle, items such as strollers/prams, wheelchairs, or bicycles cannot be taken on board. Child safety equipment such as car seats cannot be brought along either.
Other conditions
Children under 135 cm are not allowed as the service currently does not provide approved child safety equipment.
To purchase a trip, you must be over 15 years old. Children under 15 can travel with adults as long as a trip is purchased for all travelers.
Changes to the terms
During the pilot period, changes to the terms may occur. Changes may include modifications to refund conditions, cancellation conditions, price changes, or other conditions.
Breach of contract
If the terms and conditions for Selvkjørende pilot service are not complied with, Ruter may block the app from further use. In that event Ruter will reimburse any outstanding payments you have made.
If you violate the terms and conditions for the service, or misuse the service (including the app) in any other way, you are also responsible for any financial loss incurred by Ruter in relation to this misuse.
Please note
These terms are a translation of the original Norwegian terms. In case of conflict or inconsistency with the Norwegian version of the terms, the Norwegian language version shall prevail.
