E-scooter and city bike

You can use the Ruter app to buy single trips with electric scooters, electric bikes and city bikes from Oslo Bysykkel.

E-scooters back in the Ruter app in Oslo

From 25 June 2026, you can once again rent an e-scooter directly in the Ruter app in Oslo, after the service was closed at the end of May 2025. The service is also available in Akershus.

Five new security features

  • Age verification via Vipps, which is intended to prevent minors from accessing the service
  • Reaction test, intended to counter driving under the influence of intoxicants
  • Mandatory safety test, which is intended to ensure that the user knows the most important rules before use
  • Exclusion in the Ruter appof users who are already excluded by the individual operators, so that the app does not become a back door for blocked users
  • AI verification of parking images, which will help improve parking

Here's how to get started

  1. Download the Ruter-appen, if you don't have it already.
  2. Make sure that the various suppliers are set to be displayed on your map in the app.
  3. Find the nearest vehicle on the map or scan the QR code on the handlebar.
  4. Start the tour.
