Two lines between the city centre and Vestli
You may use both line 4 and 5 between the city centre and Vestli. Both lines depart every 15 minutes, which results in two departures every 15 minutes between Vestli and Økern all day, every day. Line 5 will also operate with extended carriages all day, which provides increased capacity.
From Økern to the city centre line 4 will travel via the new Metro connection at Løren to Løren station, Sinsen, Storo and on to Bergkrystallen. Line 5 runs to Hasle, Carl Berners plass and Tøyen, around the Ringen stretch and on to Sognsvann. The lines diverge after Økern to improve connections between Vestli and the western city centre. This is also required due to capacity limitations in the city centre tunnel between Majorstuen and Tøyen.
For those travelling from Vestli to Økern and in the direction of the city centre, or to and from Hasle, this results in four departures an hour, as opposed to eight previously. If you are travelling between Vestli and Økern, you may transfer between lines 4 and 5 at Sinsen.
Which line is best for me?
The new Metro connection between Økern and Storo provides a faster connection to the western city centre stations for those travelling from the Vestli–Økern stretch. If you for example live at Grorud and study in Nydalen, you can save 10 minutes by using line 4, and save 6 minutes if travelling to Blindern, compared to the Metro service before 3 April.
If you are travelling from the Vestli–Økern stretch
- to Løren, Sinsen, Storo, Nydalen, Ullevål stadion, Forskningsparken or Blindern, line 4 is better for you.
- to Tøyen, Grønland, Jernbanetorget, Stortinget or Nationaltheatret, line 5 is better for you.
- to Majorstuen the travel time is the same on both line 4 and 5.
Tip: Transfer between line 4 and 5 at Sinsen
If you're travelling to Jernbanetorget from the stretch between Vestli and Økern and line 4 is the first available Metro, you may gain time by transferring to line 5 at Sinsen. The transfer time between the lines is 90 seconds, and they stop at the same platform.
New timetables for both buses and Metro
Note that all of the Metro's lines will have completely new timetables. Many bus routes in Oslo will also have new timetables to correspond with the Metro. Check the journey planner for details.
