Hent – public transport on demand

Hent picks you up where you are and takes you to your destination. If others have booked a trip in the same direction, we'll pick them up along the way. Search, book and pay in the Ruter app. Initially, we are testing Hent in a selected area of Oslo.

This is how Hent works

  • Log in to the Ruter app.
  • Search for a trip as usual. If Hent is available, you can book it.
  • Order and pay directly in the Ruter app.

Meet at the pickup location

You will be notified about the nearest pickup location and time in the Ruter app. These are not regular bus stops, but specific locations in the app where Hent can pick you up.

Travel to your destination

The driver will pick you up and take you to the agreed delivery location. Even though we may pick up additional passengers along the way, you will arrive at the estimated time.

Practical information about Hent

You will be picked up at the nearest pickup location and dropped off at the nearest drop-off point. The pickup and drop-off locations are not physical stops, but virtual stops where we know it is safe for the vehicle to stop. Most often, it's a matter of a few hundred meters walking distance, and never more than 600 meters.

The vehicles are red with Ruter logos. Currently, we have space for four passengers, in addition to one wheelchair. All our drivers are certified to drive Hent.

Opening hours

You can order Pickup during the following time slot:

Weekdays: 3 PM - 10 PM
Weekend: 10 AM - 8 PM

The order is made directly in the Ruter app, and it is not currently possible to pre-order.

Service area

Hent is currently only available within a limited area in Oslo; east of Akerselva, from Nydalen to Rødtvet, and Kjelsås to Etterstad. The journey must start and end within this area for you to be able to order and use Hent.

Are you going from Ensjø to the Technical Museum for a family outing? Or perhaps you live in Alna and want to visit Tøyenbadet? Then you can easily book a ride in the Ruter app.

We want to make it easier for everyone to use public transportation, including those who have been dependent on cars. Hent is a service for everyone, and we are starting by testing it in the area around Hovinbyen, Oslo.

Prices for Hent

Here is a new service from Ruter, and we offer these introductory prices:

  • Adults: 50 kr per trip
  • Child/student/senior: 25 kr per journey

For the time being, the Hent-ticket is only valid for this service and cannot be used on other Ruter transport modes or in conjunction with period tickets. The service is under continuous development, and prices may be adjusted as we improve and expand the offering.

Who can use Hent?

Everyone over the age of 15 can book a trip with Hent. Children under 15 must travel with an adult and cannot require a child seat (shorter than 135 cm). To book a trip, you just need to have a profile in the Ruter app and be logged in. If you don't have a profile, you can easily create one directly in the app.

Wheelchair users receive assistance from the driver when boarding and alighting. It is important that you can get to the pickup point and from the drop-off point on your own.

Luggage and pets

You can bring luggage that fits on your lap. We aim to offer the possibility for larger luggage, sports equipment, and more in the future, but due to space and safety considerations, it is unfortunately not possible to bring these items yet.

Pets are not allowed for safety reasons, but service dogs/guide dogs are permitted. If you need a wheelchair or other aids, it is also fine to bring them.

Travel guarantee

The ride is covered by Ruter's standard travel guarantee for booked transport. If the vehicle does not show up, you can apply for a refund.
