As a professional driver in public transport, you play an important role in the everyday lives of thousands of people.
Being a professional driver in public transport is about much more than just driving.
The workdays are varied, where you meet many different people and get to experience Oslo from a unique perspective. You’ll master driving heavy vehicles, make quick decisions, and help people who need it.
You work independently, yet at the same time you are part of a large community working toward the same goal: providing the residents of Oslo and Akershus with good public transport.

I got my bus driver’s license as an adult. It has given me an exciting and secure workday. What I enjoy most of all is the people I meet. In addition, I like the challenges that come with being out on the road, the varied working hours, and the strong sense of camaraderie among my colleagues.

I chose to become an apprentice because I like large vehicles, driving and being on the road, and being part of everyday life for so many people. I really enjoy my job because it gives me a sense of achievement, responsibility, and the feeling that I’m doing something important for society.

I started driving a bus at the beginning of 2025, and became an instructor shortly after. I enjoy my job because I have varied workdays, pleasant colleagues, and I get to pass on skills such as safe driving and customer service. I get to combine professional pride with the opportunity to shape the drivers of the future.
Everyday life as a ticket inspector
As a ticket inspector, you are Ruter’s public face. You work to ensure that everyone has a valid ticket, and you help Ruter provide public transport for all.
The job is about much more than just checking tickets – you are an important part of customer service. This is what characterizes the job:
- A short path to getting started in the job– There are no formal education requirements. You’ll get the training you need to do the job.
- Nothing but office work– You’re out in the field, on buses, trams, the subway and boats.
