Ruter app Privacy Statement

Personal data protection, access and statistics when using the Ruter app.

When you use the Ruter app, you have the option to keep your travel data practically anonymous to Ruter and still have access to basic functions such as journey planning and ticket purchase. This applies even if you register your payment information for later use, as card and/or account details are stored only by the payment services and not Ruter.

You can also add your Home and Work addresses (favourites). If you do not register, these will only be stored locally in the app.

Purpose of processing data

Ruter processes personal data such as IP address and GPS positions to be able to respond to the requests you make via our app for journey planning and ticket purchases.

Legal basis

The legal basis for data processing is to fulfil our agreement with you on ticketing and, if you wish, journey planning.

What we process

  • Short-term processing of IP addresses when your mobile phone sends a request for a ticket or other information to our system
  • Short-term processing of GPS position, to be able to show you the way to the nearest stop, if you choose to activate this function
  • Short-term processing of GPS position, to be able to show you the weather forecast

We only process your data to the extent necessary to achieve the purposes described above.

Access and use

IP address and GPS position are not available to Ruter's employees. They are only stored for a few seconds in our technical systems and are deleted immediately.

You have the right to data portability, and to access, correct and delete data stored about you. However, we cannot give you access to IP addresses and location data as we do not store this. But we can give you a confirmation that our processing complies with the way we have described it in this Statement.

As we do not store your personal data, it cannot be disclosed to third parties.

Storage and deletion

IP address and GPS position are not stored and are deleted immediately.

Cloud solutions

We use the external service provider Amazon Web Services (AWS) for cloud storage. Information is stored within the European Union. All data traffic takes place over a secure connection (HTTPS). There is limited access to the information.

Permissions on your mobile phone

For the Ruter app to work properly, the app must have access to certain features on your phone. You can choose to turn off these accesses and still use the app, but some features will then either not be available or will not work optimally. You can turn off the accesses in your phone settings.

When you allow the app to access your location, only the app itself can see where you are. Ruter will only process the information to respond to journey queries, and the information is deleted straight away. Ruter and our employees will never see or store data about your movements.
