Availability on board

Are you in a wheelchair, traveling with a stroller, or have reduced mobility? See information about accessibility on board our buses, trams, subways, and boats.

Availability on board

Most buses, trams, the metro, and boats are accessible and adapted, making it easy to board with a wheelchair and stroller.

But to be able to roll straight on board, you also depend on the platform at the stop being adapted for this both when getting on and off. We are continuously working to improve this.

Information about the various modes of transportation

The metro

All subway cars have low floors without steps. At some stations, there may be a height difference between the train and the platform, such as at Nationaltheatret. There may be parts of the platform that are more accessible and better suited for boarding than others.

The subway stations have ramps or elevators to the platform (with the exception of Frøen station), in addition to stairs.

Do you have questions about how to travel with a wheelchair on your line? Call the subway at 952 58 000.

The trams

On the newest trams in Oslo you will find spaces for wheelchairs and strollers at the four middle doors. Since the tram has a low floor, it is also possible to use a wheelchair/stroller at the two other doors to access these spaces.

On some of the old trams they have low gold at the doors for easy boarding. However, some of the oldest trams have steps and are not accessible to everyone.

City bus in Oslo

Alle bybussene har lavt gulv, slik at det er enkelt å komme om bord. Bruk gjerne midtdørene for å få best plass. Normalt er det plass til én rullestol eller to barnevogner ved hver midtdør. Bruk rullestol-/barnevognknappen for å gjøre føreren oppmerksom når du skal på eller av.

Autonomous buses are equipped with a ramp that raises and lowers automatically. The ramp has a capacity of 350 kg.

Regional bus in Akershus

Most buses have low floors making it easy to roll on board. Some buses have higher floors, which can make it more difficult to board alone. If you are traveling with a stroller, wheelchair, or similar, you may need assistance from the driver or other passengers to get on board. This applies to express buses, some school buses, and some of the buses that run to and from Drøbak.

Boats

B10 between Nesodden and Aker Brygge is adapted at both ends, so that you can easily get on and off.

The boats B11, B20, B21, and B22 have a ramp that can be raised and lowered, but at low tide, the ramp can become very steep and pose challenges for strollers and wheelchairs. The crew is helpful with boarding and disembarking.

The boats B1 and B2 to and from the islands in the Oslofjord allow you to bring wheelchairs/strollers on board and to the docks, but during extremely low or high tide, embarking and disembarking can be challenging. On some of the islands, there are only paths, and thus not particularly well-suited for strollers and wheelchairs. This is especially true on Gressholmen.

Availability during the trip

We are constantly working to make the information accessible to everyone traveling with us.

  • All buses are equipped with interior screens that display the next three stops and how many minutes it is to get there.
  • In all modes of transportation, there are announcements indicating what the next stop is.
  • In the real-time view in the journey planner and in the Ruter app, you can check if the tram has a low floor. Trams without a low floor are marked with a white information symbol.
  • In the Ruter app, you also get information about the accessibility at the stops, such as distance and elevation difference, stairs, ramps, and guiding lines.
  • The subway, the new trams, and over half of our buses have external announcements that broadcast the line and destination.
