Terms and conditions for Samkjøring
What is carpooling?
Carpooling is an activity where individuals share available passenger seats in their car and split travel costs with others heading in the same direction. Drivers and passengers are connected through a digital platform. We call this service Samkjøring – Norwegian for carpooling.
In Oslo and Akershus, Ruter collaborates with the provider TRIPS, which supplies the digital platform for the carpooling service.
Cancellation and no-shows
Both drivers and passengers may cancel a trip or reservation up to 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time. As a driver, you are required to cancel the trip in the TRIPS app as soon as you know it cannot be completed.
In cases of repeated late cancellations or no-shows that inconvenience other users, Ruter and TRIPS may decide to suspend the customer from the service for a period of time.
Age requirements
Passengers must be over 16 years old to use the service; age is verified through Vipps in the TRIPS app.
Drivers must be over 18 years old and hold a valid Norwegian driver’s licence. The licence must be verified in the TRIPS app.
Baggage
The driver specifies how much baggage passengers may bringin the TRIPS app. All baggage must be properly secured during transport.
The driver also indicates in the TRIPS app whether animals are allowed. This applies to both pets and service or guide dogs. If animals are permitted, they must be properly secured during the trip.
Safety and conduct
In case of an accident or emergency
Call the emergency services first, then contact Ruter’s customer service at 22 05 70 70.
Conditions
Ruter has zero tolerance for fraud and misuse of the service. If fraud is suspected, TRIPS, in cooperation with Ruter, may immediately suspend a customer from the service.
The carpooling service is accessed through the TRIPS app. Use of the app is governed by TRIPS’s own terms and conditions.
Conduct
Ruter’s general rules of conduct during travel apply to everyone using the Samkjøring service.
Safety, liability, and insurance
The driver is fully responsible for complying with all applicable legal requirements when operating the vehicle, and for ensuring that the car is in a safe and proper condition. See also TRIPS’s terms and conditions. This includes, among other things, that seat belts must be worn by both the driver and all passengers. The vehicle must have passed its EU inspection and have fewer than nine seats. This must be verified in the TRIPS app.
As a passenger, you are insured in the same way you would be when riding with a friend or colleague. Drivers are legally required to hold a valid driver’s licence and liability insurance, which covers personal injury to all passengers in the vehicle, as well as individuals in other vehicles involved in an accident. Passengers are responsible for any damage they cause to the vehicle or the driver’s property.
Assessments and measures
If the guidelines for the carpooling service are violated, TRIPS—in cooperation with Ruter—may suspend a customer from the service either temporarily or permanently.
