More metro – without building new lines

Ruter and Sporveien have examined how we can meet future travel needs in a smart and cost-effective way. The conclusion is good news for you as a traveler: we don’t need to build a new central tunnel. Instead, we’re focusing on making what we already have even better.

What do you get as a customer?

In the coming years, a number of improvements will be introduced, collectively referred to as the Metro Upgrade:

  • The Fornebu Line opens and offers an entirely new service
  • Twice as many departures on the Grorud Line and the Kolsås Line
  • Double train sets on the Lambertseter Line – no more short trains on half of the departures
  • New signalling system and a new Majorstuen station for a more reliable everyday journey

A train every 100 seconds through the city center

With 36 trains per hour through the central tunnel, there will be a train every 100 seconds during rush hour. For this to work well for you, it is crucial that the infrastructure is kept in top condition – which is why we give high priority to maintenance and upgrades.

What happens next?

The study forms the basis for political decisions on future investments in public transport in Oslo and Akershus. The goal is simple: that you will have a reliable, frequent and comfortable service – whether you are traveling to work, school or leisure activities.
