With Hent, customers can order a trip in the Ruter app and be picked up near their location. We are now expanding the area where Hent is available.

Expanding to three new areas

Just over a year has passed since Ruter launched the booking service Hent. Hent is a type of demand-responsive transport where multiple passengers can travel together. If others in the area have booked a trip in the same direction, they will be picked up along the way.

At launch, the service was available in a limited area, but now it will be possible for even more customers to use Hent.

The extension covers a significantly larger area in Oslo, including Kværnerbyen in the south, Korsvoll and Tåsen in the west, and Alfaset and Trosterud in the east.

– We aim to make our public transport service more accessible to everyone, and this expansion is an important step in reaching more of the residents in Oslo, says Bjørn Oscar Unander, head of business development.

Meeting customer needs

The service will continue to evolve based on user needs, and for Hent to be able to replace more car trips, we know, for example, that customers must be able to bring whatever they wish. Therefore, today's luggage rules are among the service qualities that are changing. The same applies to the possibility of traveling with small children who need a child seat.

Since its launch in the fall of 2024, Hent has had more than 37,000 boarding customers. 44% of these have traveled with Hent two times or more. The demand pattern confirms that Hent is primarily used for leisure travel and social activities, with particularly high usage on weekends.

Customer satisfaction is at a whole 84%, indicating that Hent has met a customer need and is perceived as attractive among those who have tested and used the service.

Why does Ruter offer a service like Hent?

We want to make it easier for everyone to use public transport, including those who have been dependent on a car. What sets Hent apart from a regular taxi service is that the car picks up others who are going the same way. Thus, Hent becomes a supplement to the public transport offering.
