
Free public transport for asylum seekers – new rules from July 1st
If you are an asylum seeker living in Oslo, you can travel for free on Ruter's transport services. If you are an asylum seeker and live in an asylum center in Akershus, you also travel for free. Ukrainian passport no longer gives free public transport. Everyone must show a valid asylum seeker certificate.
Rules for asylum seekers
For those who live in Oslo
- You can travel for free with Ruter's transport services (bus, tram, metro, and boat)
- Travel area: you can travel locally in Oslo (within zone 1)
- You must be able to show a valid asylum seeker certificate
For those living in asylum centers in Akershus
- You will be given tickets for local travel
- Travel area: tickets are valid within one zone
- Ask at the asylum reception center how to get the tickets
- You must be able to show a valid asylum seeker certificate
If you have a Ukrainian passport (but are not an asylum seeker)
- You must buy a ticket

The changes will take effect from July 1, 2025.
