The Ruter app is now available in Nynorsk
In connection with the Nynorsk Language Day on May 12, Ruter is launching a Nynorsk language version of the app. Ruter is one of Norway's most used apps, with 900,000 weekly users. Until now, they have been able to choose between Bokmål and English, but now Nynorsk is also available.
The news that users can choose Nynorsk as a language in the Ruter app came on Nynorsk Day, May 12, 2025. This marks 140 years since The Norwegian Parliament decided that Nynorsk and Bokmål are equal languages in Norway. It is important for Ruter to contribute to this equality between the written languages.
More than a language
– For many, Nynorsk is more than a language; it's a piece of home that you carry with you, no matter where you are in the world. At Ruter, we believe that public transport is about more than just getting from A to B – it's about creating a sense of belonging. By offering our app in Nynorsk, we want to give all our users the opportunity to travel with the language that feels like home, says Bernt Reitan Jenssen, CEO of Ruter.
The Ruter-app that includes Nynorsk is available in iOS version 9.22.0 and Android version 7.67.0. We hope that many users will enjoy the functionality.
