NOTE! the text from May 17th

Those traveling on lines 2 and 3 from the west should be extra aware that there is a bus replacement service between Borgen and Majorstuen.

– Allow a little extra time, plan your journey and be patient, and it will be a pleasant day for everyone using public transport on the National Day, encourages Ruter's press officer, Øystein Dahl Johansen.

Trams, buses, boats, and the metro will run Saturday schedules on May 17th. Parts of Oslo city center will be closed to trams and buses due to the children's parade. Some bus lines in other areas will operate on alternative routes. Check the journey planner in the Ruter app or on ruter.no for updated information about your line.

If you are going to Oslo city center by subway, it is recommended to use the Stortinget or Jernbanetorget stations. This is especially important for trips east in the city.

– The weather is going to be fantastic, so bring a water bottle and enjoy yourself on this festive day, says Øystein Dahl Johansen.

Travel tips

  • Buy your ticket in the Ruter app. This way you avoid the onboard surcharge, and everyone gets to their destination faster.
  • Remember the family discount! You can bring up to four children under 18 years of age for free if you are over 18 and traveling with a valid ticket.
  • Allow plenty of time. There are many people traveling on this day, and in some places, there are children's parades in the bus and tram routes that can cause delays and detours.
  • Avoid Nationaltheatret metro station. The capacity here is limited. To prevent crowding, we encourage you to use the metro stations at Stortinget or Jernbanetorget. You should also arrange meeting places elsewhere than in the area around Nationaltheatret.
  • Be extra aware of various subway deviations, especially between Borgen-Majorstuen, where there is a bus replacement service for the subway. The buses have less capacity than the subway and take a bit longer. It's a short walking distance, and it's also possible to use the tram from Majorstuen towards the city center.
