We apologize for incorrect fee increase – customers will be refunded the difference
Last updated: 21.05.2026, 12:33
In January this year, Ruter increased the fee for traveling without a valid ticket by 50 and 60 kroner, respectively. The increase turned out to be incorrect. It is the Ministry of Transport that formally determines the size of such surcharge fees, and Ruter had misinterpreted an earlier letter from the ministry.
The fee was corrected on April 24, and no customers after that date are affected by the error.
Current fee prices
- Payment on site: 1,200 NOK
- Payment per invoice: 1,470 NOK
- Young people under 18 (regardless of form of settlement): NOK 1,200
Does this apply to you? You will get your money back automatically
All customers who paid the fee in the period from 25 January to 24 April 2026 will be refunded the amount they overpaid. Either 50 or 60 kroner, depending on whether the fee was paid on the spot or by invoice.
All refunds will be made automatically.
How the repayment works
Paid on site or under 18 years old?
Amount: NOK 50
You as a customer do not need to do anything.
All customers who have paid a fee with Vipps will automatically have the difference of NOK 50 refunded. Those affected will receive a notification from Vipps stating that “Ruter refunded 50 kroner”.
All customers who have paid by bank card will also have the difference of NOK 50 refunded to the account they used, without needing to do anything.
Paid by invoice?
Total: 60 NOK for adults
Young people under 18 who have received the fee by invoice will have the invoice adjusted so they pay the correct amount, or they will be refunded 50 kroner to the account they have provided.
You do not need to do anything. Ruter is working with the invoice issuer to adjust the invoice to the correct amount. If the invoice has already been paid, the difference will automatically be refunded to the account you used.
We go through internal procedures
We take this very seriously and are sorry that our mistake has affected our customers. In the aftermath, we are reviewing our internal procedures to prevent similar errors from happening in the future.
It is important for Ruter to acknowledge that we have made a mistake and to correct it. Customers, owners and partners must be able to trust that we act in accordance with the authority we have.
