Strategy and vision
Vision for sustainable mobility
Sustainable mobility is about facilitating a good life, social justice, and positive urban and regional development within the Earth's capacity for resilience.
Sustainable means that the solutions should take into account environmental, social, and economic considerations. Freedom of movement implies the freedom for citizens to live their lives by easily having the opportunity to travel wherever they want, whenever they want – and it includes all citizens, regardless of their circumstances.
Together with customers, owners, operators, and other partners, Ruter works to reduce private car use and make green mobility the preferred mode of travel for customers. We call it sustainable mobility freedom.
A fundamental principle in sustainability work is to prioritize areas where the company has a significant impact on the economy, environment, and people – and the ability to manage that impact.
Strategy for the mobility service offering
The strategy is a framework for how we aim to develop the public transport service towards 2040. It provides a basis for what should be prioritized and when, lays the groundwork for route changes and tender processes, and indicates the need for changes in the infrastructure.
The strategy for the mobility service has been developed by the Strategic Traffic Plan at Ruter, and consists of analyses of the current mobility service, forecasts for future needs, recommended mobility strategy, and an associated overview of measures.
