Our sustainability strategy
Table of contents
Sustainable development means meeting the needs of people living today without destroying the possibilities for future generations.
The UN has defined 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which emphasize that everything is interconnected. Therefore, the goals look at climate and environment, economy and poverty, education and health together. The aim is that everyone should be included. No one should be left behind. And everyone must do their part.
At Ruter, we focus particularly on eight of the goals, where public transport can have a positive impact. We aim to deliver more than fine words, which is why we work to measure everything we do and publish the results.
Eight selected goals
Ensure good health and promote quality of life for all
Decent work and economic growth
Innovation and infrastructure
Reduced inequality
Sustainable cities and communities
Responsible consumption and production
Stop climate change
Partnerships for the goals
GRI reporting
A fundamental principle in sustainability work is to prioritize areas where the company has a significant impact on the economy, the environment, and people – and the ability to manage that impact.
In collaboration with owners, operators, employees and interest organizations, Ruter has identified 13 material topics for Ruter’s sustainability work. We use the international standard for sustainability reporting: Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
Emission-free operation
Our ambition is clear: we will make public transport so attractive that it becomes the first choice for even more people. At the same time, we are working towards zero emissions from operations.
