# Student in Oslo and Akershus

> Are you a new student in Oslo? Welcome! Here’s what you need to know about using public transport in Oslo and Akershus.

## Student ticket: the cheapest way to travel

Are you a student under 30? Then you get a 40 percent discount on the 30-day ticket. In the Ruter app, go to Buy new ticket → Period ticket → 30-day ticket → check the student option. That way you’ll have more money left for what you want.

Apprentices get the same discount.

When you travel with a student ticket, you must always be able to show valid proof that you are studying or in an apprenticeship for the current semester if there is a ticket inspection.

**In Oslo (Zone 1), the price of a monthly pass for students under 30 years old is 393 kroner.**

## Everyday tips

**Check the traffic status** on ruter.no or in the app before you leave home. Delays and disruptions are updated continuously.

**Bikes and public transport**work well together. You pay the child fare for a bicycle, large kick scooter, self-balancing scooter and kicksled on buses, boats and trams. On the metro, bringing a bike is free as long as you travel outside rush hour.

**Monthly pass or single ticket?**If you travel more than two days a week, a period ticket usually pays off. With a student discount, the threshold is even lower.

**Use the journey planner smartly**, for example to find the best route to campus.

- Search by address, not just stop name.
- Use the arrival function, enter when you need to be there, and the app will find the best departure time.
- You can also save regular trips as favorites, favorite routes, and stops.

**Buy your ticket directly in the app**so you can skip the line at the kiosk!
