Get around in Oslo and Akershus

With the metro, tram, bus and boat you can get from the city center to the fjord, the islands and the forest without a car and without having to think about parking.

How to buy a ticket

The easiest way to buy a ticket is to download the Ruter app and buy your ticket there. You can pay by card and Vipps in the app and have the ticket ready on your phone before you board.

In the Ruter app, you can also plan your journey.

More about single tickets

Physical travel card

If you prefer a physical travel card, you can buy it at Narvesen, 7-Eleven and Mix, or at our customer service center at Jernbanetorget 1.

Here you can buy a travel card

The card costs 50 kroner and can be reused. You can also top up an existing travel card at the same kiosks.

Buy a ticket on board the bus and boat

If you don’t manage to buy a ticket before you travel, you can buy a single ticket on board the bus and boat. Remember that it is more expensive than buying it in advance. You must pay in cash, and we do not accept banknotes larger than 200 kroner.

Unfortunately, you cannot buy a ticket on board the tram or metro.

Oslo Pass

If you want to combine public transport with museums and attractions, the Oslo Pass may be worth considering. With the Oslo Pass you can travel by public transport in Oslo and the surrounding areas in Akershus.

You can also travel to and from Oslo Airport. The pass also gives you free admission to a number of museums and attractions.

You can buy passes that are valid for 24, 48, or 72 hours.

Buy the Oslo Pass at Visit Oslo

The ticket is valid for public transport in Oslo, Lillestrøm, Nittedal, Asker, Ski, Nesodden, Son and Oslo Airport.

How the zones work

Oslo and Akershus are divided into zones. Zone 1 covers the entire Oslo city center. A regular single ticket or day pass in zone 1 is valid on all lines within the zone, regardless of whether you transfer between metro, tram, bus, or boat.

If you are traveling to Nesodden, Asker or the airport, you need a ticket that covers multiple zones.

You don’t need to calculate or know which zones you’re traveling to. Use the journey planner and enter where you’re traveling from and to, and we’ll work out the zones for you.

The travel planner shows you what applies to your journey.
