# Our mission

> We are responsible for more than half of the country's public transport. Our goal is to make public transport so attractive that it becomes the first choice for even more people. Ruter is a joint administrative company for public transport in Oslo Municipality and Akershus County.

## Our mission

Our mission is to lay the foundation for a comprehensive, rational, and market-adapted public transportation system in Oslo and Akershus. We aim to create an attractive offer for the residents of the region and contribute to a more sustainable societal development. A society where people always travel together whenever possible, and alone only when necessary.

We fulfill our mission through the procurement, development, planning, coordination, and marketing of public transport services. Within the given financial constraints, our services should meet the transport and climate policy goals set by the Oslo municipality and Akershus county for public transportation in our area.

### Partners

The public transport is operated by various companies that have contracts with us. Ruter therefore does not own any buses, trams, ferries, or subway trains. [Sporveien](https://www.sporveien.no/hjelp-og-kontakt/) Subway AS and Sporveien Trams AS are fixed contract partners, while bus and ferry contracts are awarded through competitive tendering.
