Tickets for students and pupils

Which ticket serves you best depends upon how old you are and on whether you have the right to free school transport or not. Travelproposals to and from a school or campus you will find using our travel planner. Remember to always bring your student ID when you travel with a student discount ticket.

Travelcards and tickets

Under 20 years of age = youth ticket

If you have no right to free school transport and are younger than 20, the 30-day ticket for children and youth be an excellent alternative. You can also buy the 7-day ticket at youth price.

20 - 30 years of age = student ticket

Full-time students and apprentices between 20 and 30 years of age can on certain conditions buy 30-day ticket with student discount. You must among other things be under 30 and study full time for a minimum of 3 months at a campus in Oslo or Akershus. If you are older than 30, you must buy an ordinary adult ticket.

NOTE: When you travel with a discount ticket (youth or student ticket), you must be able to show identification when the conductor asks for it. When using a student discount ticket, you must be able to show student ID with confirmation of paid tuition fee or an apprenticeship contract. Read more about discounts.

Getting hold of travelcards and tickets

You can buy a travelcard with a youth or student ticket at all Ruter’s points of sale. If you already have a travelcard, you can also buy a ticket from ticket machines. See all ticket sales outlets.

Using the travelcard

The first time you travel with a new ticket you must activate (validate) your ticket by having a validator scan the travelcard. Activation may be compared to stamping a paper ticket. Read more about the travelcard, its use and registration.

Finding a travelproposal to and from a school or campus

All ordinary lines and school routes are searchable in our travel planner, but not all schools have been registered with their names. You can search from your own address to the school’s address in order to find the best route suggestion - go to travel planner.

Please be aware that the school route schedules may vary from day to day, so remember to state the correct day/date when you are searching.
