Some history
Trafikanten AS is a continuance of the company Oslo and Akershus Trafikkservice AS which was created at the statutory general meeting September 25 1986. In January 1988, the service centre at Jernbanetorget was opened, and Trafikanten was soon famous for its work with travel information and customer service for public transport in the Oslo region.
Until 2012, Trafikanten was owned by several companies, with Ruter as the main owner and service purchaser. In January 2012, Trafikanten was bought up by Ruter, with the purpose of making things simpler for travellers with a more simplified organisation and externally unified profile. In March the same year, trafikanten.no and ruter.no were merged to a common website, ruter.no. In this way, Trafikanten continued its customer-related activity under the Ruter name.
Ruter was created in 2008 as a company for the planning and marketing of public transport in Oslo and Akershus. Trafikanten's customers were mainly people who travelled with Ruter, and the takeover enabled a stronger effort with regard to the services upon which public transport depends.
