Ruter plans, coordinates, orders and markets public transport in Oslo and Akershus. All operative service is performed by various operating companies that work by contract for Ruter and by NSB with local trains - all within the same ticket and price system.
Management, board and owners
Ruter AS is a common management company for public transport in Oslo and Akershus which is owned by Oslo municipality (60 %) and Akershus county authority (40 %).
Management
The CEO managing director of Ruter is Bernt Reitan Jenssen. The manager group which is the managing director's closest advisers and responsible for the daily administration of Ruter, consists of Rune Pedersen (finance director), Hanne B. Norli (business development director), Tore Kåss (strategic planning director), Anders Finckenhagen (operations director), Ellen Marie Rogde (sales and marketing director) and Marit Elin Leite (quality director).
Board
The board is chaired by chairman Bernt Stilluf Karlsen and makes decisions about the budget and paramount issues. On the board, both the owners and the employees are represented: Tone Skogen (vice-chairman), Svein Horrisland, Anita Orlund, Ane R. Breivega, Jeannette Abell and Carl Sandstad.
Trafikanten and Konsentra - subsidiaries of Ruter As
Trafikanten AS
Trafikanten is known as a service company with the primary objective of promoting the use of public transport through good information and attractive and updated information solutions which are available for all. From January 2012, Trafikanten became a wholly-owned Ruter company and will continue its business under the Ruter name. Read more about Trafikanten.
Konsentra AS
Konsentra is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ruter As, the purpose of which is to coordinate, plan and arrange passenger transport. Every year, it arranges approximately 1.2 million trips commissioned by Ruter, Helse Sør-Øst as well as several municipalities in Akershus - read more at konsentra.no (only in Norwegian).
Operators
Ruter itself owns no buses, trams, boats or metros. The transport itself is performed by various operator companies that have a contract with Ruter. The metro and the Oslo tram are permanent contract partners, whereas buses and boats are awarded contracts after competitive tendering.
